During the month of July, we make the transition from the early summer flowers of June to late summer flowers of mid July and August. Some of the early summer blooming plants continue their bloom period well into the late summer period. Others are now past for the year. Martha Crone wrote: "The golden summer when the days are long is here again. The dainty spring flowers have long since passed and the deeper colors of summer flowers are now noted. Mingled with these are a number of white flowers all too little appreciated. They give us a source of light and restfulness, and serve to intensify the brilliant colors. In nature no colors clash." Remember - The Garden is dedicated to being a wild native plant oasis within an urban environment - a small natural garden where the hand of man is to be less evident. Do not expect formal garden beds - the Garden's purpose is such "that it appears that the present viewer is the first person to see the area." (Ken Avery, former Curator). |
